Easy to Find Gifts for New Gardeners
As the following gifts will most likely be useful soon, you can impress your friends or family members with your knowledge and all the thought you’ve put into these gifts.
Gardening Calendar: This is an easy garden gift, with more selections than you might imagine. You can purchase large print or small print with room for notes, including beautiful photos of plants, flowers, and gardens. You may also gift a garden calendar loaded with information like when to plant, when to expect your harvest, and information about the weather or even specific regions.
Gloves: Help the new gardener protect their hands or save a manicure with a nice pair of gardening gloves. These have a variety of features and prices and are useful for all types of gardening chores. If the gardener will be working with cactus, get a thick leather pair.
Tools: Pruners, knives, scissors, bypass pruners, and loppers often come in handy for any gardener. These are essential for the well-manicured landscape and often necessary when propagating plants. It’s so pleasant to use a new sharp pair. Bypass pruners are the best type for many smaller chores. A tool sharpener or tool sharpening kit may also be a great gift for the active gardener.
More Unusual Gifts for a Beginner Gardener
Soil Test Kit: One of those beginner gardening gift ideas that the gardener might not even think of is a soil testing kit. It’s hard to get through a gardening season without having reason to test soil in some part of the landscape. A range of soil tests are available, most checking for the soil pH, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash. You may also make a note on the card, letting the new gardener know that soil tests are sometimes done through the local county extension office.
Row Cover Kit: These can come in handy both outside and in the greenhouse. Row covers are used for frost protection, in conjunction with pest control, and as a support for shade cloth. The various reasons for its use are many. For the new gardener planting a traditional garden outdoors, this is an unusual and thoughtful gift.
Garden Box Subscription: A box filled with seeds, supplies, or unusual plants to add to your collection is a real treat for the beginning gardener. As it’s something we might not invest in for ourselves, it makes a wonderful gift. Several companies offer some version of the garden box subscription.
